About Hole in the Tree 

Welcome to the world of Hole in the Tree Miniatures, a tiny offshoot of Jennifer Hershberger Fine Art. I'm Jenn - wife to my dear hubby and mom of 4 kids (3 grown and one at home), 2 cats, and an exasperating but lovable corgi.

When I was little, I loved playing in the woods near our home. I would come upon a tree with a hole and wonder who lived there. I tried to wish myself chipmunk-sized so I could visit the inhabitants, or maybe even be the one to move into that best-of-all place! Alas, all the wishing in the world never changed my height, so I contented myself with peering in to see as much as I could. I made doors and furnishings out of sticks, nuts, and rocks that were just right for a very small person. Sometimes I brought a tiny doll or two to play with in these little houses in a tree. My very favorites were a family of gnomes my aunt had bought for me. The mother cooked many meals for her two children in her acorn cap pot while Father was out mining with the pick axe I made from a toothpick and matchstick and his wide bottle-lid pail with a string handle.

I never lost my love of making little things for my dolls. I cleared off my bookshelves or created houses out of boxes and furnished all of them with chairs and tables made from whatever I could find. I went on to minor in art in college, and worked few years after our kids were in school as a sculpture artist for a custom wedding cake topper company. All these things plus lots and LOTS of diy mini-making tutorials on YouTube (thanks especially to Ara of Bentley House Minis and Sharon of Where the Gnomes Live), taught me skills that refined what used to be just childhood play into my on-going passion for creating miniatures.

I hope to bring a smile to people's faces when they explore my trees and other creations. There's always something to discover in The Hole in the Tree!
